Waipukurau Ladies played the final in the championships today. There were four groups, nine holers, Junior, Intermediate and Senior.
The Nine Hole championship was c0mpeted by the two finalists, Linda Wilton & Trish Syme. Linda became our 2024 Nine Hole champion.
The Junior championship was competed by its two finalists, Jeannie Peacock and Jane Hamilton playing 18 holes. When the writer joined this match Jeannie was in the lead 4 up over Jane. However as we golfers know, circumstances change and soon Jane was in the lead. The change of the lead however was not indicative of the wonderful golf played by both ladies. Our new Junior champion for 2024 is Jane Hamilton.
The Intermediate championship was competed by the finalists, Libby Tosswill and Brenda O'Neale. The writer was not following this match so really can't give a exact report. However Libby had a resounding win and is now the Intermediate champion for 2024.
and of course, the big one. The Senior championship which as competed by the two of our strongest players in the Waipukurau Ladies. Christine Sharp and Claire Tiuppett shook hands at the Tee No 1 and headed off to cover 36 holes of match play. In the afternoon, quite a gallery had formed and followed the two with great interest, even the referee, Wendy, was intrigued. After quite a match, Claire won the Senior Championship on the 33rd green.
